Today, spiritual teachers seem to be a dime a dozen. Many of them are asking for large sums of money in exchange for spiritual teachings that have historically been freely passed from teacher to student.
Many of these teachers offer a solution consisting of joining a community group or as an exclusive cult that has formed around the so-called spiritual master. The message is: "join my community and get paid large amounts of money and enlightenment will surely be yours." When in fact it is a trap that involves manipulation and control.
From personal experience, I know it can be beneficial (for a limited amount of time) to join a group that claims to practice an ancient practice mind-body, however, if a person gets stuck there feel they can not leave, then there is a danger that the person always identify just what has been submitted by the co-creators (the leader of a sect or teachers ) that group. Any identification sickening ego of group leaders / teachers and then obstacle will become the way of eternal light.
is perfectly fine for spiritual / professional to receive compensation for the time they offer their students teachers, but be aware that there are those who claim to be spiritual masters when in reality they are nothing more than sophisticated fraudsters.
the intention of this article is not to undermine people today who teach classes asanas or those who are facilitating new age workshops. My reason for writing this article is to help clarify some of the perceptions, so that readers can have a greater ability to recognize genuine spiritual teachers. If you are a person who seeks the guidance of a more experienced professional, I have hope this article can help people like you in finding your way to happiness and liberation.
to this end, I have put together what I think they are 14 characteristics that describe a genuine spiritual master at the present time. Knowledge, experience, technical skill, and credentials are important in seeking the guidance of a spiritual master.
Practice makes a potential teacher what he / she teaches?
What is the personal practice of the person like? Does he / she meditate every day

authentic teachers know our lighting is intertwined and therefore intended that all beings can be happy and free . Which manifests itself in many different forms, authentic teachers give freely, without any expectation of reciprocity.
they live in a humble way?
Happiness is an inside job '. A teacher who is down to earth and humble lives are signs that the person is a true spiritual master. Jesus teaches us about the importance of humility. A true master has no need for luxury cars, a mansion, or other material goods. Although the teacher can probably be financially independent, a true teacher is happy living a modest life in a modest home.
Are they receptive to constructive feedback?
Nobody is perfect - we are all human. Be open to constructive feedback you can only make the person a more conscious and masterful teacher. As we all are a consciousness that experiences subjectively ourselves, when a person offers up well-intentioned constructive feedback, this is an aspect of our consciousness that is curious and facilitate the progression of the teacher.
is his focus selflessly serving people?
The purpose of life is to experience joy. The way to experience the joy is through the path of compassion . Compassion implies love and love other people. Love involves appreciate the natural beauty of each and serve as a vehicle of divine grace. This centrally involves serving others in a way that really benefits recipients.

Do not laugh regularly and appreciate humor?
Some say that laughter is the best medicine. The Dalai Lama seems to laugh a lot. genuine spiritual masters are not as serious about that never laugh. Laughter is natural medicine and this feature shows a level of playfulness.
Do they speak the truth, even if it is unpopular?
In the philosophies of Indian life, Satya is a Sanskrit word that means the truth or veracity. True spiritual teachers say things as they are, even if the masses do not recognize the truth. Truth should not be used as a weapon, which can hurt the feelings of the people; and at the same time, a genuine spiritual master knows it is his / her responsibility to be a representation of what is true and healthy.
teach that self-mastery is a lifelong pursuit?
The domain is a way. In Western cultures, at least, genuine spiritual teachers are on a path of continual personal development

If a person meets all - or most of - the above characteristics, can be considered that the person who is serving as a genuine spiritual master. Also, check with yourself about how you feel about the person. What is your own intuition tells you?
