Psilocybin: A Spiritual Experience That Has The Potential To Unearth Your True Self
by James W. Jessocollective evolution
Since 2010 I have been exploring what it means to cultivate a spiritual practice with psilocybin, also known as "magic mushrooms ". Since then I have written two books-long term Decomposition of Shadow (2013) and the true light of darkness (2015) -and given several public presentations on the subject.
the main lesson that I have acquired through my work with psilocybin is that the integration of aspects of the shadow, or dark, directionless oneself are essential for psycho-spiritual development and overall health. Without the direct experience of emotions shadow of a place of delivery and recognition, those aspects of us are likely to be stored improperly, repressed, in the deep psyche. This creates blockages to the flow of life within us and new ways of harmful behavior, are created to keep these locks, to maintain repression or avoidance of emotional unwanted content.

These new routes are tough and difficult to break, but they are not energy efficient, nor are advantageous for long-term health of the whole organism (personal or collective). Imagine what happens to a dynamic forest system when a dam is built. Natural tributaries and dynamic ecosystem that support, are flooded.
Now imagine this dam is poorly constructed and is constantly cracking under the pressure, causing more harm than only manages to require more maintenance of the dam and as new dams installed to keep maintained flooded areas. The construction of the first dam creates a chain of events leading to cause more damage to the integrity of the whole ecosystem.
Similarly, repression of dark loneliness emotions-sadness, helpless, hopeless, etc. ., it can wreak havoc flooding and one inner-landscape. However, the uncomfortable emotions that are trying to keep at bay can never be truly contained. Eventually escape and attack, causing damage to yourself and your broader social ecosystem as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
Some of us have fewer pending sorting orders, although we all have uncomfortable contextual emotional content to our personal and cultural experiences in life that remains unaddressed in some way. He's been there, repressed from childhood, as they said, directly or indirectly, to "calm down and not stop", or "big boys do not cry", "you're fat / stupid / not good enough" or "should be adjusted to specific ideals to be valuable, "etc.
we have repressed, unresolved emotional content from so far back in ourselves that do not even have memories associated with it. As far back that exists beyond the ability of the mind thinking to reach, such as the potentially devastating moment for a baby when his mother turns her head slightly as her smile. Or for a child at an age when most parents are ignorant in their belief that "the child does not understand" and fight aggressively with each other, meanwhile, all the emotions associated with that conflict are internalized by the child as his fault that mom and dad are upset by what [insert deleterious self-deprecating identity structures here]. The emotions of this moment in our lives are still with us, unresolved because they were treated according to the strategies of a child.
Many left emotions echoing our past can be seen through a rational point of view as if they had been inadequately incarnate. Of the adult mind looking back, we can see the bigger picture and understand that it was not our fault or perhaps any action that caused us pain out of a place of love, or a place of trauma or other disease. This gives us the ability to forgive and understand conceptually, but the severity of the emotional effect of these experiences have on the part of pre-rational of us who affected is initially beyond the rational mind can explain (regardless of the amount intellectualism we throw at it).
These deep-seated emotions hold great potential for empowerment, however, when unaddressed and locked away, remaining power by controlling our subconscious behavior. Thinking historical feelings is not necessarily going to release its grip on you. The only way to really move through and beyond these emotions, their integration, is felt in its utmost honesty and learn from those feelings (as best you can).
This is not an easy process, nor comfortable. The ego, the operational sense of "I" that maintains the survival of the individual, is deeply committed to keep safe from the pain and discomfort of dealing with what has hurt you. It will not allow open access to these emotions, 'for their own good. "
But if we are able to create a container in which these emotions feel and integrate them into our sense of self, you can recalibrate how they affect us. We can learn to be strengthened by our presence to pain we have faced in life and even essential suffrage is to be we humans in turn allowing to be more capable of compassion for ourselves and for others.
as we grow and mature in our body elderly in recent years, if given the right opportunity, we must be able to learn emotional intelligence and discover an opening ourselves and the world, which can eventually free us from our old defenses. However, for many of us , harmful patterns of repression that manifest from conditioning the behavior of an emotionally adolescent society passed from generation to generation trauma dysfunction create more regularly than we are able to classify. Two steps forward, three steps back, and ended up falling into vortices auto harmful behavior.
There are many different psychotherapeutic and spiritual methods to help curb this vortex. Some more effective than others and all of which are leveraged by a meditation practice, a supportive community, and a practice of diet and healthy movement.
As mentioned in the first paragraph, my work with psilocybin mushrooms has been the main spiritual therapeutic practice I have done to create a container for free, recognize and integrate emotional content repressed and eliminate the accumulation of trauma staff, as an adult, all suddenly woke up and found to have proliferated my lifetime. Psilocybin has helped me a lot on this trip.
Unfortunately, information on building a mature spiritual practice with psilocybin is rare in the modern Western world, both cultural use, it exists within a mentality more adolescent: play, fun, recreation, tripping out. I have no problem with this mentality, because there is no set prescription as to how one chooses his personal relationship with visionary plants and fungi. But there are risks involved with the unconscious use or misinformed. In addition, the trend toward positive transformation and healing in life is increasingly unlikely that the mentality of recreation or surface is more dominant. This essay is part of a trip I've been to share and co-create an accessible to work with psilocybin for personal growth presented in my two books and several conferences model.
play, laughter, and fun are a part of psilocybin experience, although I believe that the real expansion of ecstatic transcendence is mediated by the depths of the uncomfortable emotional honesty which has been chosen to liberate themselves. When we discover our darkness in those depths and surrender to its fullness and presence in the body, those aspects of ourselves that may have been suffering in secret since before they were even able to be explicit memory are given a space to be seen, felt, loved, and integrated. We offer the opportunity to be strengthened through the metabolization of raw emotional energy on self-awareness, maturity and fullness. We can reveal the true light of wisdom that our honest darkness revealed when we break the shadow aspects of self and allow their catabolites that nourish the soil of our spiritual maturity.
As mentioned above, psilocybin in spiritual practice it has proven to provide a great benefit to my life, but often it has done in exchange for a great risk to my sense of psychological security. I stress this point because it is a common theme in the psychedelic / entheogenic culture progressing to talk evangelically about the healing potential of psilocybin and psychedelia, in general, I think that puts people at risk just further exacerbates their problems. Psilocybin has great potential, but is not a magic bullet.
The type of psilocybin practice I mean it is not easy or intrinsically safe and should not be invested in the giddy momentum. If you are currently facing depression, anxiety disorders, or other serious emotional illness, consult a professional before attempting to take psilocybin. If it is or is not safe for you should be deeply considered before going this route. Be aware of your options.
What invited me to take away from this article today is not so much what you can offer the psilocybin mushroom as recreation and superficiality is transcended, but what experience we psilocybin shows what we are. It shows that there is no reason to fear, suppress or evade the inevitable, newspapers, uncomfortable emotions we face; and that the more we feel what is really happening within us, the most comprehensive of our authentic expressions I we become.
The value of feeling sadness or loneliness or inadequacy with the delivery and self compassion, to know as an extension of our healthy being and in so doing allow change and inspire us something bigger, is an expression of power that we are all endowed with. We just have to decide whether we are willing to walk this path of life. But it will not be easy.
