More issues of quality control at Johnson & Johnson (J & J) have stimulated a new consumer product recalls. They found at least 2,200 bottles of Aveeno Baby Comfort Calming Lotion batch number 0161LK to be contaminated with coagulase-negative staphylococci, a highly contagious, resistant to antibiotics that can cause crippling disease pathogen.the recall was announced after tests carried out by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) revealed higher than normal pathogen levels exceeding the maximum levels. However, J & J says further tests by an "independent laboratory" showed that levels of bacteria in the batch did not exceed the maximum levels.
The bottles contaminated were sold in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas, according to J & J, but are not being recalled at the consumer level. Although the company has removed the contaminated batch of stores, is not asking people who bought the cylinders in the batch to return.
J & J insists that even retired lotions market are safe, and also claims that coagulase-negative staphylococci is a common and usually harmless pathogen. However, a 1999 study published in the journal Annual Review of Medicine explains that coagulase-negative staphylococci is highly transmissible, especially in hospitals, and can cause system infections central nervous, native valve endocarditis or prosthetic, urinary tract infections and endophthalmitis ( http://www.annualreviews.org/doi/abs /10.1146/annurev.med.50.1.223).
throughout the last year and a half, J & J recalled at least 12 different consumer products manufactured by McNeil consumer Healthcare. These products include children's Benadryl Allergy Fastmelt tablets Tylenol, 8 hours, Motrin IB, Sudafed 24 hours Rolaids and Tylenol Cold Liquid products ( http://www.mcneilproductrecall.com/page.jhtml?id=/include/ news.inc ).
Meanwhile, two longtime executives of J & J will retire in March, according to the Washington Post. Patrick Mutchler, group president of over-the-counter medicines, nutritional products and health and prevention, and Pericles Stamatiades, head of global strategy for consumer products, will be leaving after having worked at the company for 35 years and 28 years, respectively ( http://www.washingtonpost.com ) Source:.
