SYPHILIS









Syphilis is classified as sexually transmitted
disease. It is a chronic systemic infection caused by Treponema Pallidum. It is
a disease which generally spread through sexual activities. This disease is
contagious and can be easily transmitted from one to another. It can be
transmitted by just body contacts, kissing.

This disease is contagious so it can be easily
transmitted from a mother to her new born baby. This disease is so dangerous
that sometime it can snatch away the life of your child.

Although syphilis is a infection which spread from
infectious person to another easily however, this cannot be spread by using
common toilet seats, touching door knobs, sharing clothes, or eating in common
utensils.

Causes

1. ·       
   Syphilis is most commonly spread through
   sexual contacts with an infected partner.


2. ·       
   There are some social factors which are
   responsible for its cause like, affluence, consumption of alcohol,
   prostitution.


3. ·       
   It is a chronic systemic disease caused
   by Treponema Pallidum.


4. ·       
   Other factors included in its
   transmission or cause are asymptomatic disease in women and homosexual men,
   antimicrobial resistance and contraception.

Treatments

It is easy to treat syphilis if diagnosed at early
stage and later on it can become dangerous and even can lead to death.

1. ·       
   Person who have this infection for less
   than a year he can be treated easily with penicillin 600-1200 mg daily for 10-14
   days.


2. ·       
   Person who is allergic to penicillin can
   be treated with an oxytetracycline, 500 mg 6 hourly or doxycycline 100 mg 8
   hourly for 15 days.

For the person who is suffering from late syphilis
:-

1. ·       
   For the one who have cardiovascular or
   neurosyphilis for them procaine penicillin G 1.2 g I.M. daily for 4 weeks is
   advised by doctors.


2. ·       
   For those who are allergic to penicillin
   for them oxytetracycline 500 mg 6 hourly for 4 weeks is advised.


3. ·       
   If anybody is infected from benign
   tertiary syphilis for those benzathine penicillin G 2.4 million units I.M.
   weekly for 3 weeks is advised.


4. ·       
   For those who are allergic to penicillin
   for them oral doxycycline 100 mg 8 hourly for 4 weeks is advised.


5. ·       
   Person who is infected from syphilis
   must avoid sexual contacts until they are properly cured.

Preventions

1. ·       
   As it is well known that this infection
   is transmitted by sexual contacts so it must be avoided with an infected
   partner.


2. ·       
   If it is difficult for a one to resist
   their desires then they must use condom in every sexual encounter.
