JAUNDICE









Jaundice makes our skin yellow. It also make our
white portion of eye turn to yellow. In jaundice the amount of bilirubin
increases in our blood. Jaundice is a sign of underlying disease process.


Bilitubin is a cause of destruction of red blood cells
in the body. The hemoglobin molecule into our blood is split, with the heme
portion undergoing a chemical change to bilirubin.


Liver excretes bilirubin in the form of bile. If
there is a 
disruption in its excretion then bilirubin is produced and hence
jaundice may result.





Causes:-

We have mentioned some underlying causes of
jaundice:-




  1. ·       
    Acute
    inflammation of the liver
    :- it may impair the
    ability of  the liver to secrete
    bilirubin which  leads to 
    buildup of
    bilirubin.

  2. ·       
    Inflammation
    of the bile duct
    :- it may stop the secretion of bile and
    do not stop the production of 
    bilirubin.

  3. ·       
    Obstruction
    of the bile duct
    :- it also prevents the liver from
    disposing of bilirubin.

  4. ·       
    Hemolytic
    anemia
    :- when large quantity of erythrocytes are broken
    then bilirubin is produced and leads to jaundice.

  5. ·       
    Gilbert’s
    syndrome
    :- it interferes the functioning of
    enzymes to process the excretion of bile.

  6. ·       
    Cholestasis:-
    it is a condition in which flow of bile is interrupted and stop the excretion
    of bilirubin.








Symptoms:-



  1. You can see many common signs and symptoms of
    jaundice in a person.

  2. ·       
    Your skin will turn to yellow color, it
    will also make your mucous membranes and the white portion of your eye to turn
    to yellow color.

  3. ·       
    You may also notice light-colored
    stools.

  4. ·       
    Patient will notice dark-colored urine
    and itching of skin.

  5. ·       
    Nausea and vomiting are also some of the
    common signs of jaundice.

  6. ·       
    Abdominal pain, confusion will be
    noticed.

  7. ·       
    Patient will have fever and loss of
    appetite and will also feel weakness in his body.

  8. ·       
    Swelling of the legs and abdomen will
    also be there.





Additional signs and symptoms that may be seen in
the newborn include:-




  1. ·       
    Poor feeding,

  2. ·       
    Lethargy,

  3. ·       
    Changes in muscle tone will also be
    there.

  4. ·       
    They will cry in high-pitched sound and seizures are some of the symptoms can be seen in them.








Prevention:-



  1. ·       
    You should avoid consumption of alcohol
    because that has direct effect on your liver.

  2. ·       
    Take vaccines of hepatitis(hepatitis A,
    hepatitis B).

  3. ·       
    Take proper medications to stop
    high-risk.

  4. ·       
    Avoid high risk behaviors such as
    consumption of drugs and unprotected intercourse.

  5. ·       
    You must maintain good hygiene that will
    make your immune system strong.

  6.        Avoid medication that can cause
    hemolysis or directly damage the liver.
