The Effects of Diarrhea in Baby
More times and larger amounts of looser poop may cause the baby’s body
losing too much water and electrolytes. It can cause dehydration after one or
two days after the beginning of the diarrhea. This condition can be fatal,
especially in newly born babies.
When your baby has the following signs of dehydration, call your doctor
immediately;
- Fussy
or irritable - The
diapers are less wet for the less pee - Dry
mouth - Uncommon
drowsiness - No
tears come out when the baby cries - The
baby’s head top has a sunken soft spot - The
baby’s skin isn’t elastic like usual.
The less than 6 months baby can also have some following symptoms, and you
should see a doctor when you find the symptoms, such as:
- High
fever of 102 degrees or more - Painful
stomach - Colored
poop in red, black or white for the blood or pus contamination - Vomiting
- Sluggishness
How to Treat Baby’s Diarrhea
As you know what causes diarrhea, then you should know the right treatments to prevent more severe
condition.
- Keep
hydrate the baby. Dehydration in baby should be treated in hospital, but
you can prevent it if you treat your baby properly and give him enough
liquids. Continue giving your baby breastmilk or formula if he isn’t
vomiting too. If you can’t feed your baby, then you should see a doctor to
get pediatric electrolyte solution. The solutions are provided in most
drugstores and available in some flavors so your baby will love it. The
baby will keep down the solution more easily than milk. - Avoid
sugary products that will worsen diarrhea. - Feed
your baby with balanced nutrition meals if he has gotten his solid foods.
The nutrients of the foods will help fight the infection. You also can
feed him some unsweetened yogurt that has cultures to fight infections.
- Keep
the baby’s comfort by changing his diaper regularly and always cuddling
with him.
