THE LATEST FACE MASKS
(for all types of skins)
If you've got a skin concern, we've got a mask to fix it. Our editors tried the newest brightening, hydrating, and anti-aging face masks and reported back with the results.
FOR TIGHTER SKIN
What it is: An anti-aging mask
What it does: Encapsulated ceramides hydrate skin; antioxidants and vitamin C combat environmental pollution and tighten sagging; anti-glycation peptides increase collagen production.
What our tester says: "The best part about this ultra-hydrating mask? You can actually wear it overnight without making a mess of your pillow and your blowout. I did it several nights during NYFW and woke up to tighter skin and compliments from my fellow editors on my glowing skin."
Kate Somerville Age Arrest Hydrating Firming Mask, $75, katesomerville.com.
FOR NOURISHED SKIN
What it is: A moisturizing, calming fiber sheet mask
What it does: Natural honey extract and aloe vera soothe irritated, sensitive skin and lock in moisture.
What our tester says: "It smells slightly fruity and feels cool and refreshing. It got a bit tight after fifteen minutes and even though the directions say not to rinse after, my skin felt too sticky not to. It left my skin smooth and hydrated, though."
Sephora Honey Mask, $6, sephora.com.
FOR PORE-REFINING
What it is: A clay mousse mask
What it does: Pink and white clay absorb excess oil and clean out pores; Buriti seed shells deeply exfoliate; and sea fennel extract works as a toner to balance skin.
What our tester says: "I've used my fair share of clay masks, and I often find them heavy and uncomfortable, not to mention difficult to wash off. This mask felt lightweight—I actually forgot I had it on. After washing it off, my pores were less noticeable and the inflammation was significantly reduced. The next day, I found my face to be less oily than usual."
NUDE Purify Deep Cleansing Mask, $48, available in October at sephora.com.
FOR BRIGHT, EVEN SKIN
What it is: An overnight brightening mask
What it does: Peony, licorice root and vitamin C reduce dark spots and correct uneven skin tone; cucumber extract hydrates.
What our tester says: "It feels more like a rich serum than it does a mask, which is great because most overnight masks tend to feel heavy and take forever to sink in. It says to use it once or twice a week, but I cheated and used it every night for a week and while I didn't notice a big difference after the first two nights, by the third morning, my skin was so much glowier. I love the scent—floral and natural."
Fresh Peony Brightening Night Treatment Mask, $65, fresh.com.
FOR INTENSE HYDRATION
What it is: An ultrahydrating gel sheet mask
What it does: Hyaluronic acid holds up to 1000x its weight in water and penetrates deep into dry skin; cranberry extract repairs lost elasticity and bounce in the skin.
What our tester says: "I've been flying quite a bit and my skin was beginning to feel it. I threw on this single-use mask while I was working at my computer in the AM and it was instantly cooling. Afterwards, my face felt tighter and more moisturized all day."
Dr. Jart ,Hydrogel Mask, $42, sephora.com.
FOR BLEMISHES AND DEEP CLEANING
What it is: A mattifying, pore-cleansing mask
What it does: Witch hazel and cucumber extract tone, balance and calm oily/acne-prone skin.
What our tester says: "It helped to clear up a small blemish I had, but it didn't leave my skin feeling tight and dried-out like other acne masks can."
Nügg Deep Cleansing Face Mask, $3, nuggbeauty.com.
FOR REFRESHED SKIN
What it is: A detoxifying mud mask
What it does: Activated charcoal gently absorbs oil and impurities while black sugar brightens and exfoliates dull skin.
What our tester said: "The mask went on a lot thicker than I thought it would but that actually made it easy to apply. I left it on for about 15 minutes (the packaging didn't say how long to leave it on for) but as the mask dried, it got itchy and a little uncomfortable. Once I rinsed it off though, my skin instantly felt so much smoother. There wasn't a dramatic difference in the way it looked but it felt a lot better—softer and more moisturized.
Freeman Charcoal & Black Sugar Mud Mask, $2, freemanbeauty.com.
FOR FIRM, LINE-FREE SKIN
What it is: An anti-aging "second skin" mask
What it does: This collagen mask moisturizes and reduces wrinkles over time.
What our tester says: "This mask requires a full 30 minutes of sitting upright and not moving around. However, it's worth the downtime as my fine lines vanished and my skin looked decidedly plumper."
Talika Bio Enzymes Mask Anti-Age, $16, talika.com.
