Drugs are a very real problem that police have to deal with every day. Illegal drugs show up in all parts of the country and in every community. They are prevalent in rural areas, suburbs and densely populated cities. It is the job of police officers to get drugs off the streets. They also need to handle people who might be using drugs and presenting a risk to others in the community. This is why officers often attempt to check if a person is using drugs during traffic stops. This is exactly what happened to two officers recently.

Officer Sean Beckett works for the Milton Police Department in West Virginia. He and his partner were patrolling normally one day and ran across a suspicious vehicle. The officers pulled the car over due to traffic violations. Beckett approached the vehicle and the driver rolled down the window. This is when the officer suddenly noticed the powerful smell of marijuana. The drug was not legalized or decriminalized in West Virginia. The officer got the driver out of the car. His partner came up with a trained K-9 and started searching the inside of the vehicle. That is when he noticed a suspicious looking hamburger from the Wendy’s fast food chain.

It turns out the driver had stuffed a bag of marijuana into the hamburger. He was arrested on the spot despite protests that the burger just came that way. The police officers posted about the incident on the department Facebook page the next day. They wanted to inform the public that hamburgers do not stop trained dogs from detecting drugs. They also stated that marijuana was not an ingredient in Wendy’s hamburgers.
