A new study published this week by researchers at Harvard University found that reducing the price of fruits and vegetables is key in preventing people from dying of heart attack and stroke.

Although the population ages and, unfortunately, it gets a little wider and less healthy, the government is more likely to lend a hand in solving the health crisis. However, the answer may be much simpler than the government would like to admit, as the new study suggests.

However, the answer may be much simpler than the government would like to admit, as the new study suggests.
The research, which was presented at the American Heart Association ( AHA) Epidemiology lifestyle NS 2,016 scientific meeting shows that the reduction in the price of fresh produce only 10% and the increase in the price of unhealthy foods in the same amount can reduce deaths from cardiovascular disease by 1.2 % in 5 years and about 2% in 2 decades. Similarly, heart attacks and strokes would be reduced by 2.6% and 4%, respectively, in two decades.
In addition, scientists discovered that verges the cost of grain by 10% could lead to a reduction of 0.2% of heart disease within 5 years and 0.3% in 20 years.
the results also suggest that raising the cost of sugary drinks by 10%, there may be a reduction in deaths from heart related almost 0.1 percent in 5 years disease and 0.12 percent after 20 years. [1]
Overall, the reduction in the price of fruits and vegetables by 30% could save about 200,000 lives over 15 years. That's roughly the population of Des Moines, Iowa.
And the price reduction by 10% in 15 years could save between 64,000 to 69,000 lives. [2]
Playing with the price of fruits and vegetables would be more effective in saving lives than traditional campaigns to get people to eat healthier, too, models computer scientists showed.
Lead researcher Jonathan Pearson-Stuttard an academic clinical fellow at Imperial College London, said NPR that . lower prices translate into better health in every way, regardless of age, gender, race and ethnicity
Pearson-Stuttard said:
"poor diet is a major contributor to cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death in the United States. therefore, governments should implement effective dietary policies to address this growing burden. both mass media campaigns and achieving lower prices of fruits and vegetables are important tools to achieve this. "In the United States, heart disease is the murderer # 1 of men and women, killing about 1 million people each year, according to The Heart Foundation. Adults assets that consume a 2,000 calorie diet should consume at least 4.5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
Speaking at the presentation, Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian , dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University and principal investigator of the study, said:
"strategies that increase awareness, availability and affordability of healthy foods like fruits and vegetables must be seized and adopted by the US In addition, policies to subsidize fruits and vegetables may have an impact on more equitable health across race and ethnic groups. And crucially, this can be accomplished quickly. "All posters, videos health class and campaigns in the world will not help if people can not have access to fresh and affordable food.
According to Elizabeth Pivonka, president of Produce for Better Health Foundation, a nonprofit that works to increase consumption of fruits and vegetables, says the resolution of the issue is less about shifting subsidies for corn crops and soybeans for broccoli and oranges, and more on spending the USDA more fruits and vegetables financing money.
When analyzing the expenditure of the Department of Agriculture programs subsidies, promotion programs, education and more research, Produce for Better Health said in its report of 2015 Gap analysis that the department did not match its own recommendations for dietary guidelines.
