Dreams and Their Symbols Open Window Into the Psyche
By Anna Hunt"The dream is the small hidden door in the deepest and innermost soul sanctuary, which opens to the primeval cosmic night that was soul long before I was aware and be soul far beyond what a conscious ego could ever reach " -. Carl Jung , the meaning of Psychology for Modern Man
In recent years, dreams have been the subject of empirical research and scientific study to help researchers get an idea disorders emotional such as depression and anxiety. Much of this study has been based on the work of Carl Jung, respected psychiatrist and psychologist, who believed that dreams are full of symbols derived from the unconscious, which gives us a glimpse into the mind.
Dr. Lance Storm, a visiting researcher with University of Adelaide ' s School of Psychology in Australia, has recently published a new study International Journal of Studies Jung , suggesting that the archetypal analysis symbols in dreams can give an idea of mental health problems and aid in their treatment
"[Jung] the most common archetypal images as the hero are described in seeking objectives. shadow, often classed as negative aspects of personality; the Anima , representing an element of femininity in the male; the Animus, representing masculinity in women; the wise old; and the Great Mother. "The storm continues" There are many hundreds of other images and symbols that appear in dreams, many of which have meanings associated with them - as the image of a beating heart (meaning "charity") or the ouroboros, a snake tail ( 'eternity') bites. There are symbols associated with fear or virility, a sense of power, the need for salvation, and so on. "- ( source )Research by Dr. Storm claiming that a common set of archetypal symbols and their related meanings can be objectively validated, rather than interpret randomly and individually Jung. believed, these symbols allow a vision of "unconscious code." Storm of the brain argues that this code can be decrypted and used in the clinical treatment of conditions such as depression . However, Jung himself warned of the esoteric nature of dreams:
"it is plain nonsense to believe in systematic guidelines already prepared for dream interpretation. No dream symbol can be separated from the person who dreams of her, and there is no definitive interpretation or immediately of any sleep. "- Man and His Symbolsefforts Jung help people overcome mental conflict and allow them to grow naturally personal growth led him to develop the process of individuation.
"in observing a large number of people (at least 80,000 dreams) Jung he found that not only were the relevant dreams. . . but they seem to follow an arrangement or pattern. This process Jung called "the process of individuation. '"The complexity of the mind human and its ability to self-perception, self-reflection and development of consciousness continues to baffle neurologists . Learning to interpret dreams and their symbols is perhaps a step closer to understanding both the physical brain and the whole psyche.
"The process of individuation is real only if the individual is aware of this and consciously makes a living connection with him." - Man and His Symbols
