No-Cook, Five Minute, Classic Pizza Sauce
The pizza is a popular menu item in our house. If it were up to my husband, we would have pizza for dinner 7 days a week. Probably for lunch as well. During the coldest winter months, the pizza makes an appearance on our plates less once a week. Usually weekends. Over the years I have learned some shortcuts to make pizza night a piece of cake ... er, pie.
Although I have not been able to nail the recipe for a crust without tasty gluten (I've tried a few, but still a project on my to-do list), I keep it as nutritious as possible with a mixture organic unbleached all-purpose and whole wheat flour. We loaded up on vegetables, of course, and sometimes sprinkle with mozzarella Daiya or follow your heart vegan (and occasionally this homemade model Zarella ). And always, always we use this simple sauce "homemade".
This sauce is basically the version of Cheat pizza sauce "homemade". I do not see myself embarking on a cook down all day a giant Cuba of fresh tomatoes in the short term, but when you do that everything will be the first to know! I much prefer this super simple method-a-par-cans open and pour. You can customize the spices according to your preferences, and it's so easy to double or even triple the batch, freeze the sauce in bags, and have healthy pizza sauce ready to go for months! Or a few weeks if you live in our house.
Perhaps you wonder why I even go to the trouble to make my own sauce when there are plenty of pre-made sauces in the pizza market. Like, duh Larice has not been ever the tomato sauce aisle? So I have, and I'm frankly insufficient. It's slim pickings for organic pizza sauces in our grocery store, and even organic sugar have been added. Why, why, why ??? pizza sauce, in my humble opinion, does not need sugar. I promise you will not miss anything at all. Save that sweetener for something more fun, like my double chocolate brownie cookies nut , for example. If you can find one without sugar, then it is likely to be added oil, which is not a big problem if it is a good olive oil quality, but again, it is not necessary for a tasty sauce. The last reason I like to do my own, is that it is cheaper, and that is one or two buck you saved can go towards, for example, buying a bar of dark chocolate for brownie nut cookies he was talking about. You know, just a thought.
So I'm here in paragraph number five and my plan was just to throw this idea that short and sweet, like the recipe itself. Once again my verbosity took over and here I am blabbing away at you. Easy No Cook Pizza Salsa (organic, oil-free, sugar free, vegan)
Adapted from this recipe
- 1 to 15 ounces of organic tomato sauce
- of 1 to 6 ounces of pasta organic tomato
- 1 large clove garlic, pressed *
- 1 scant tablespoon Italian seasoning blend
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- dash or two of cayenne pepper and / or red pepper flakes ( optional)
- 01.04 to 01.02 teaspoon sea salt (optional, but I always add)
- some water if you want a little thinner
Instructions:
So easy, simply stir everything in a large bowl. Taste and adjust seasonings as desired. Usually you can get about 3 pizzas worth a lot, depending on the size of the pizza. Freeze the rest or use within 5 days. Store in the refrigerator.
* If you have time or want to take the time to run this through the blender for smoother sauce. I do not usually do this, but if you do not have a garlic press or do not want pieces, then turn around in your blender.
