Superbug Resistant to ALL Antibiotics Found in China
by Julie FidlerNatural Society
The day the doctors, scientists and health experts have long feared and continually warned may have come as a mutation discovered in people and livestock in China has been found to make bacteria resistant to all antibiotics - including drugs "last resort".
A gene known as MCR-1 is becoming more common in bacteria found in China. The mutation allows the bacteria to resist antibiotics tough group known as polymyxin , specifically a drug called colistin. Colistin is considered the absolute last line of defense against bacteria when all other antibiotics have failed, but you can not even remove the newly discovered pathogen. . These MCR-1 genes are basically invincible and that theoretically could end up affecting all infectious pathogens Weather reports:
"a new report found resistant to colistin, a medicine used bacteria when all other treatments have failed, in 16 patients, 15% of samples of raw meat and a fifth of the animals tested. the mutation that causes drug-resistant gene called MCR-1, and resistance among several bacteria, including E. coli bacteria spread. "[1]
the World Health Organization (wHO) warned in 2012 said colistin was vital to human health. Although the WHO classification, farmers around the world continued to fuel the antibiotic their animals in large quantities to fatten. The use of colistin, polymyxin the most used, is especially widespread in China, where farmers give pigs and chickens. [2]
Experts say it may not be long before the world is struggling to cope with the uncontrollable spread of superbugs. MCR-1 appears to move easily between strains of E. coli and other common bacteria, including Klebsiella and Pseudomonas , which cause many infections of the blood, urine and gut. Chinese researchers in the journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases that these germs are likely to put people in danger of death. Based on its terrible results, the team predicts a return to the Middle Age. [3]
"These results are extremely worrying," professor and co-author Liu Jian-Hua, Agricultural University South China said in a press release .
Liu and his colleagues warn that although it may seem smart to limit the use of colistin, now is too late. Bacteria seem to cling to the plasmid even when not using the antibiotic , suggesting that the problem is here to stay.
In the US, not we have fed colistin livestock mass, but it is estimated that 70% of antibiotics considered of vital importance to human health are used in farm animals and we likely day have drugs like colistin to fight with easy advance of handling errors. [4]
antibiotic resistance kills about 700,000 people worldwide each year. That number is expected to climb 10 million by 2050 .
