Tesla and SpaceX C.E.O. Elon Musk said he was worried that people did not understand how quickly the artificial intelligence was progressing, and expressed concern that in the worst case, a machine of "super-intelligent" could decide to destroy human life.

Musk was talking to Walter Isaacson, President and CEO Aspen Institute Summit on the stage of New Establishment of Vanity Fair in San Francisco. Musk, wearing an uncharacteristically suit, detailed their fears after taunts announcing the secret project of Tesla called "D."

"I do not think anyone realizes how quickly artificial intelligence is advancing. in particular, if [the machine is] involved in recursive self-improvement... and their utility function is something that is harmful to humanity, then you will have a very bad effect, "said musk.


"If your [function] is just something like get rid of spam email and determines the best way to get rid of spam is to get rid of human beings... "musk trailed off, as the crowd laughed.

Isaacson asked whether his desire for well-publicized musk to retire on Mars, part the inspiration behind the spaceship company Musk, SpaceX, could help you run faster than the machines of evil.

"No, more likely, if any. . . scenario apocalypse, you can follow people on Earth, "said Musk.

Earlier at the summit, the president of SpaceX Gwynne Shotwell describes the development of reusable transportation systems that will take people Mars as one of the main objectives of the company.

"Do you think maybe read too much science fiction?" asked Isaacson musk.

in response to a later question about Virtual reality, musk questioned whether the Summit itself could be a "simulation".
