THIS IS WHY MOST INDIGENOUS CULTURES DON’T HAVE BACK PAIN

Nowadays, due to our modern way of life, back pain is frequent among the population. Hence, nearly half of working Americans experience back pain yearly. What’s more, one third of the elderly population suffers from severe back and neck pain.

Back pain is a painful condition to live with as it prevents you from doing the activities you usually do. When you resort to painkillers, you are just adding to the list of health complications.

The question which arises is why indigenous communities experience no back pain despite the hard work they do?

Most of these communities perform back-breaking chores, and they have perfectly healthy backs. Hence, Esther Gokhale, an acupuncturist from California, travelled around the world into the untouched habitats of such indigenous communities to find out the reason why.

What Gokhale noticed was a huge difference between how people in those communities walked, sat, and stood, and how we did. What’s more, even the elderly people could do chores bending up to 9 hours without any problems.

Also, she discovered that their spine was J-shaped, which is different from the usual S-shaped spine.

Gokhale claims that she took the challenge of making her spine J-shaped. And, with a lot of effort and hard work, she managed to do this and she felt no back pain anymore. She adds that achieving this was not easy.

According to Dr. Praveen Mummaneni from the University of California, we have differently shaped backs because our way of life causes lack of muscle tone and postural stability which results in weak core muscles.

Exercising and building up the core muscle strength is crucial if you want to J-shape your back.
