- Meat and beans- 5 ounces a day is ideal. Try to grill,broil or bake it whenever possible. This minimizes the amount of grease into the equation. Include fish,beans,peas and nuts for variety.
Another thing you should be aware of when cooking your good is to limit solid fats. This includes butter,margarine,shortening and lard. While they add flavor to dishes these fats help to raise cholesterol levels.
Other fats you should be aware of that need to be avoided whenever possible, are saturated and trans fats and sodium. Check the labels on products to ensure you are not ingesting large amounts.
