Genetically Modified Food
large eggs, apples untanning, fast-growing salmon, pigs that are less harmful to the environment ... twenty years ago, certainly none of us thought that food grown in technical laboratories are consumed not in nature.

according to some studies, more than 200 million hectares of farmland worldwide are used for the cultivation of genetically modified foods (GMOs). the most popular transgenic cereal is soy, followed by maize, cotton and oilseed rape.
Also in this list include: papaya, potato, rice, tomatoes, zucchini, etc ..
The future of our diet with grains, fruits and meat, day to day is more characteristic of GMOs .
What was genetically modified foods?
-Genetically modified food is produced by inserting genetic material (DNA) from one species to another, with genetic engineering techniques. This allowed the transfer of the desired characteristic of one species to another, even if they are not related, or perhaps between animals and plants.
for example, a gene that acts like antifreeze taken from polar fish is inserted into tomatoes and strawberries to prevent freezing. In pigs that the human gene is inserted, grow faster and more effectively.
What is genetic engineering?
-Genetic engineering (GI) is a new technology that allows the manipulation of genes. Genetic engineering, also called genetic modification, is the direct manipulation of the genome of an organism using biotechnology. (Genetic Modification indirectly through artificial selection has been practiced for centuries.)
New DNA can be inserted into the host genome for the first isolate and copy the genetic material of interest using methods of molecular cloning to generate a DNA sequence or by synthesizing DNA and then inserting this construct into the host organism. Genes can be eliminated, or "knocked out" using a nuclease.
gene targeting is a different technique using homologous recombination to modify an endogenous gene, and can be used to delete a gene, exons remove, add a gene, or introducing point mutations.
What are genetically modified organisms?
- plants, animals or microorganisms that have been genetically engineered are called genetically modified or transgenic organisms. The bacteria were the first organisms to be genetically modified.
He disrupt the biodiversity in nature, because GM crops interact with the natural flora and fauna. They multiply, mutate, invade the surrounding wildlife and destroy. GM plants soil causes sterility and inability to grow organic food.
- OMG destroys wildlife. They made insect resistant plants, the release of toxins in the soil, thus destroying bees, butterflies and other insects that usually depends on natural flowers.
- More than two thirds of the transgenic plants produced so far is declared as ruthless murderers because of the effect of herbicides in conventional and organic crops
Is there a health risk?
- With the consumption of genetically modified foods, there is the possibility of allergic reactions in your body, which are often treated as allergies with unclear origin;
- The possible resistance to antibiotics. In recent years they have become health professionals alarmed by the growing number of bacterial strains that are showing resistance to antibiotics. There is concern that the bacteria that live in the intestines of humans and animals could pick up a gene for resistance to antibiotics of a GM plant before the DNA was completely digested.
- Genetically engineered foods can have a toxic effect. This could occur by the process of gene insertion into the plant.
- Decreased nutritional value
A GM plant could theoretically have a lower nutritional quality than its conventional counterpart, making nutrients available or indigestible to humans.
