A Man Who Died In A Nursing Home, Left Something That Brought The Nurses To Tears
The NursesAfter the man died, nurses in home care in Australia where he lived allegedly found this unpublished poem among his possessions. were so inspired by their content that they felt compelled to share his words with the world.
Undoubtedly, this piece presents a thorough examination of the relentless march, non-interruption of life, not to mention the feeling of invisibility felt by many elderly people.
However, there is more to the story behind this verse that most readers realize.
Old Cranky
What you see nurses? . . ... .What do you see?
What are you thinking ... when you're looking at me?
An old grouchy man ,. . . . . .no very wise,
uncertain of habit .... . . . . .. With distant eyes?
Who dribbles her food ... ..... and it offers no answer.
When you say aloud. .'I Wish they'd try! '
Who does not seem to realize . . .The things you do.
And it is always missing. . . . . .... A sock or shoe?
Who, resisting or not. . . ... You can do whatever you want,
With bathing and feeding. . . .The Long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking?. That .IS what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse .you're not looking at me.
I'll say that I am. . . . .. While I'm sitting here so still,
How do at your bidding .... . since eating at will.
I am a little boy of ten years. .with a father and mother,
brothers and sisters .... ... That love each other
A boy of sixteen. . . .. With winged feet
The dream that soon now. . .. . . you will meet a lover.
A bride soon at twenty. . . ..my heart leaps.
Remembrance of the votes .. .. .that I promised to keep.
At twenty years now. . . . .I Have my own young.
Who need me to guide. . . And a secure happy home.
A man of thirty years. .... . . My young grown fast.
linked together. . .. With ties that should last.
At forty, my young sons .. .have grown and gone,
But my wife is next to me. . to see that not mourn.
fifty, once again .. ... Babies play around my knee
Again, we know that children. . . . My dear and me.
dark days are upon me. . . . My wife is dead.
.... I look at the future. . . Tremble with fear.
For my young are raising .. . . young of their own.
And think of the years. . . And the love I've ever known.
I am an old man now. . . . . . .. And nature is cruel.
kidding to old age. . . . . . . with stupid face.
The body, it crumbles .. ... the grace and vigor, leave.
There is now a stone. . . where once I had a heart.
But inside this old canal. A young man still dwells
And occasionally. . . . . my heart swells hit
I remember the joys. . . . ... I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living. . . . . . . life again.
I think of the years, very few. . .. Ido too fast.
And accept the stark reality. . . that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people .... . .. . . open and see.
is not a man grouchy old.
Look closer. . . . see .. .. . .. ..... I!!
The next time you encounter a person, remember this song, look deeper and see a young soul that lies below a helpless body.
The most beautiful things in the world can not be seen nor touched, they must be felt with the heart, so share with your friends!
