Death is the only thing we can all be sure, if you are a king or a peasant, President US homeless or living in an underpass in Los Angeles, does not matter. It is the only true equalizer. So much so that many people have spent their whole lives trying to find ways to stop the inevitable; which is why we have modern medicine, and why we poor tonnes of funding cancer research. But on that special day when going to the other side, one can find that they wish they had done things differently. And who better to know what these things are a person who spends every day of your life around those who are on their way out.
Bronnie Ware was a nurse hospice for years, serving patients who had death looming over them. She helped make them as comfortable as possible, and I heard their stories, their perceptions and their remorse.
These are the top five regrets that observed in his blog, "Inspiration and Chai."
1. "I wish I had had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others They expected of me. "
Bronnie found that this was the most common regret of all. While it is easy to look back in your life at the end of it and know what things you like to have or not have done, it was found that most people had not met even half of his dreams, and die knowing that it was because of their choices, and that health brings a freedom that is seldom recognized until it is too late.
2. "I wish I had not worked so hard."
3. "I wish I had the courage to express my feelings."
Bronnie notes that many people keep their feelings and emotions repressed in order to keep peace with others or to avoid confrontation. Because of this they wore a mediocre existence and never became the person who had the potential to become.
4. "I would have liked to have been in contact with my friends."
Never let life get in the way of reconnecting with people you care about. Bronnie says, "everyone loses their friends when they are dying."
5. "I wish you had let me be happier."
You should focus on joyful awakening every day of his life, and if you're not doing that, you need to change something. Bronnie was surprised to discover that it was common that many did not realize until too late that happiness is a choice. Many had stalled, stuck in their ways and habits, comfort outscored their emotions and physical lives. Fear of change had to pretend they were content, even when they were like laughing and joy in their lives again.
