A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER got the surprise of her life when a fleet of Harley Davidsons turned up at her house for a birthday surprise.

Elizabeth Baker of Nayland Road, Colchester, was told she was going out for coffee on Saturday morning until she saw more than a dozen bikes arrive outside and she was told it was her turn to climb aboard.

Daughter Denise Baisse had organised the surprise ahead of her mother turning 90 on Sunday and Elizabeth was soon zooming through the streets clinging onto the back of a rider from the Lakeside Chapter of Harley Davidson.







Elizabeth said: "I had mentioned a while ago I wanted to ride on a motorbike but it was one of those things you say and then completely forget about.

"I was told we were going out to get a coffee and then there was all sorts of delays and dithering around and I wondered what we were waiting around for.







"Then I heard the bikes come back past the window, turn around and come back to outside the house, then suddenly they all came in."

Elizabeth, who has five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, revved through Colchester for half an hour.

She said: "It was absolutely brilliant, and I don't think I have come down from the happiness even now.

"I don't know why I like Harley Davidsons, I just love the roar of the engine it sounds like Concorde or a Vulcan bomber.

"It was absolutely wonderful.

"I think all the surprises are over with for my birthday now and we will just go for a quiet meal on Sunday."

Paul Coulson from the Lakeside Chapter of Harley Davidson said he was more than happy to get involved when he was asked to take Elizabeth on the ride.

He said: "What was just going to be a couple of bikes going up turned into an official ride.

"We loved it. Being part of an official chapter means we get to do a lot of stuff like this and give people experiences which is great."
