The early symptoms of cancer are usually subtle and people don`t take them seriously. A British study, published in PlosOne, has found that even a minor health problem can be a sign of serious health condition.

According to the study author, Katriina Whitaker, a senior research fellow from University College London, people ignore these signs and disregard them as common aches and pains.

1. Lump or bumps

Enlarged bumps and lymph nodes can be the early sign of changes in the lymphatic system and even cancer. Therefore, if you notice any lump on your body consult your doctor immediately.

2. Excessive bruising or bleeding that won`t stop

Abnormal blood counts, such as high platelet count, can be a sign of leukemia. Leukemia is a malignant disease in which the bone-marrow produces immature and abnormal leukocytes which suppresses the production of normal blood cells.

3. Changes in fingernails

Any change in the fingernails that hasn`t been caused by physical trauma can be a sign of certain types of cancer.
