Nose Picking or scratching

With constant scratching or picking the nose or even by accident you can damage blood vessels in the nose, causing bleeding. This is more common in children, but adults who tend to pick your nose may also suffer form.

How to stop a nosebleed at home?
If your nose starts bleeding you need to tilt your head back and pinch the nostrils, keep them closed for 10 minutes, breathing through the mouth. You can also make a nose pinching device with tape together tongue depressors.

If your nose starts to bleed again take a nasal decongestant spray like Afrin and Dristan and spray in your nostrils to constrict the blood vessels. Pinching the nose again and keep up the pressure for a few minutes.

To stop the nose to prevent bleeding again can be applied saline solution and topical ointments inside the nose, but only after the bleeding stops.

When should you be concerned?
nosebleeds are rarely serious conditions or life-threatening and most cases resolve with ease at home. However, there are certain cases where a nosebleed can get serious and need medical care and services. Especially if you are taking blood thinners like aspirin or warfarin, nosebleeds can be very annoying so you should consult your doctor. You might even need to adjust the dose.
