They Told You Ginger Was Good For You, Here’s What They Didn’t Tell You!
You’ve all heard about ginger and its health benefits. It’s been scientifically proven that ginger is 100% effective in the prevention of type 2-diabetes in preschool aged children, which was even published in the Journal of The American Diabetes Association.
In this recent research 70 type 2 diabetic patients were enrolled in a double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial with the purpose to evaluate the effect of ginger on the glycemic status, lipid profile and some common inflammation markers linked to this condition.
The subjects were randomly divided into two groups, the ginger group and the control group. The first group received 1600mg. of ginger a day while the other group received 1600mg. of placebo a day, in the course of 12 weeks. The patients tested their blood sugar levels, cholesterol levels, C-reactive protein, prostaglandin E2 and tumor necrosis factor alpha before and after the trial period.
The research showed that ginger has a long list of benefits for patients suffering from type1 and 2 diabetes. The fun part about the study is the daily amount of ginger the subjects received. 1.6gr of ginger, divided into two doses, two capsules a day. That’s the equivalent of ¼ teaspoon of ginger.
The subjects who were on placebo therapy had little to no improvements while the subjects on the ginger therapy had the following improvements:
- Reduced fasting plasma glucose.
- Reduced glycated hemoglobin.
- Reduced insulin.
- Reduced Triglycerides.
- Reduced cholesterol.
- Reduced C-reactive protein (a marker of inflammation).
- Reduced prostaglandin E2 (a marker of inflammation).
The most important thing we must conclude from tis research is that dosage is really important. The subjects received a relatively small dose of ginger a day, but it had amazing results on their overall condition. It needs to be pointed out that when it comes to spices, it doesn’t necessarily mean that more is better. Some spices contain complex herbal compounds which if ingested in higher amounts can even have the opposite effect. As this study revealed, only a quarter teaspoon of ginger can have amazing effects on your organism, so you need to be careful not to overdose and reverse its effects.
