Makeup Tips for Eyeconic Eyes
Several months ago, I put together a roundup of recreated, noteworthy lip looks and got quite a bit of positive feedback. I wanted to do something similar—but different, of course—and so here I am today with iconic eye looks.
Because it takes a bajillion times longer to do your eyes than it does your lips (in most cases, at least), I've got a total of three looks for you today. Perhaps a continuation into later decades in another post may be a hit? We'll see!
1. 1920s: Clara Bow
I mulled my '20s inspiration pick over for a while, and ultimately I had to go with Clara Bow. I feel like she epitomizes the decade so well, and her look is truly iconic.
To create a soft and powdered finish, I used a matte foundation (Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup), and then applied a light dusting of finishing powder. Next, I did a little eyebrow concealing. This takes some work, but it's necessary if you want to recreate the weird, linear brows that were so prevalent in the '20s. I used brow wax to smooth my brows down, then applied concealer on top.
Next, I re-drew my brows, which, as you can see, are very different from the way we do brows today. The brows of the '20s tend to be much lower, so I started at the base of my natural brow and drew a thin line with near-black shadow and an angled eyeliner brush. The brows also extended much further than they do today, and curve slightly downward.
Eyeshadow application was also drastically different form the way we do things today. Instead of building up darkness at the outer corners of the eyes, women in the '20s built up darkness on the interior and even onto the sides of the upper nose. I used a dark brown (Faint from the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette) across the entire lid for this, then buffed Crave, a near-black, into the interior corners. Using a pencil brush, I also applied Faint on the lower outer corners of my eyes. The shadow was a little unkempt, as a rule, so I did a minimal amount of blending.
Finally, I finished up with a little bit of Urban Decay's Yeyo (white) eyeliner on my waterline, then lathered on several coats of mascara. Of course I went for the cupid's bow lips, too.

Indian women are blessed with gorgeous deep set eyes and to help highlight this feature, Lakmé has launched Lakmé Eyeconic – a revolutionary range consisting of kajal and mascara. The new Eyeconic Kajal by Lakmé is literally iconic as all you need is one sweep of kajal and it lasts for 10 hours. The product is waterproof, it doesn’t smudge and it is even safe for the eyes since it is dermatologist tested.
Complete your look with lots of Eyeconic Curling Mascara. The mascara gives the eyes an intense black finish and comes equipped with a curling brush that helps give curves to your lashes. It is also enriched with D-Panthenol – a moisturizer which keeps lashes soft and smooth. The product makes the eyes look brighter and adds a perfect sparkle to your entire look.
The Eyeconic kajal and mascara by Lakmé forms the perfect combination in creating a look that is sure to get you noticed! You can now transform your look from drab to fab with just a little kajal and a hint of some mascara.
3.When using a kajal pencil
always start from the outer corner working inwards. Make sure to take short strokes & don’t shy away from pressing the pencil on the waterline. You are not going to hurt yourself while doing this :) Kajal pencils are made keeping in mind the area that it needs to be used in & hence they are creamy & soft.
In case if you feel that your eyes are very watery & the regular kajal pencils do not stay in your eyes, you can use a gel liner with a brush inside your eyes too. Please try it a couple of times & in case if you feel that your eyes are getting red or teary, immediately stop using a liner. Switch over to kajal pencils.
Another way of making your kajal stay longer is by dipping your regular kajal in a black gel liner pot & then applying it directly to your waterline! This would make the black very intense & would make it smudge proof.
If you feel that even after doing this your kajal still smudges, apply a little bit of brown or black eye shadow just below the waterline, with even strokes, again beginning from the outside & stopping till 3/4th of the eye. The powder of the eye shadow will stick on to the creamy texture of the kajal & would not allow the kajal to budge from it’s place. Leave the inner corner bare or apply a light shimmery shade to make the eyes pop.
