All day on television, the media tells us how to be and how we should look.

in society in general are taught to identify with our physical body and our possessions.

we are led to believe that if we look a certain way, be happier, I wanted more, and accepted by others . I used to believe this. I bought it hook, line and sinker.


I found my picture taken about twelve years ago, and I looked radiant. The sun lit up behind me, my skin looked porcelain, and I had this incredible red hair.

I looked and thought how beautiful it was. At the same time, I looked at the girl in the picture and she was a stranger. The girl felt nothing but beautiful.

he hated, felt unworthy of love, and thought he did not belong because it was not thin enough or pretty enough.

Al growing up, I was a victim of child abuse and harassment. An important role was played in my thinking in recent years.

My father used to call her ugly girl, and he also used to be cruel to my mother, who was overweight at the time . So I knew that when I grew up, would have to be thin and beautiful to be loved.

also had thick glasses as a child, and children often shouted the name of "fish eyes" throughout the school bus during the middle school years. At that time in my life, my classmates excluded me, my dad ostracism, and physical abuse I suffered a major factor in the chest.

Fast forward to college. I was a big theater.

My voice teacher got me my first professional gig, and she believed in me. My talent got me starring roles on many occasions, and I had confidence . Then came the time to sit down with an agent to be represented.

was not the most talented. I was told that my appearance was not stack up to the competition. I could easily give you the list of all the things that were "wrong" with me. Which was fine with me?

I was not pretty enough, unconsciously meant "not good enough." They did not ask sing, or read a scene, or even make the monologue of a minute that I had prepared.

This was my past, not my present, and definitely not my future. Now I know I'm old enough. And if someone does not see what I'm worth, nothing happens. I'm enough! It's even written on my yoga mat.

As a yoga teacher I took some time to overcome the quest for perfect posture. Even the pictures of yoga magazines extremely agile post types, stop steady hands, beautifies, prepared, and lean. So many people think that it's supposed to be.

magazines Yoga teaches us to identify our physical body and our eyes take in everything and we think this is what yoga is all about. The words in the magazines say differently, but our eyes capture images of models yoga and our brain perceives as perfectly prepared, implying that this is what yoga is.

For some, this it may be a reason for not practicing. There is still the belief that yoga is for the small, agile and articulate. This is not what the practice is.

I started my yoga practice for self-improvement, and got self-acceptance . Self-improvement occurred on the trip.

I began to see my value as a human being. Instead of "fine" I think "healthy". Instead of seeking beauty in the mirror, I found within me, and I was there all the time.

Losing five pounds will not make me happier. If I make a perfect forearm support, my life does not change. This does not mean you stop trying or working toward goals, but the identification of my body and the physical practice with what I am is stopped.

I leave identification of my physical appearance self-esteem. I am not my tense muscles. I am not my weight or my jean size, or even my yoga practice. I am enough. I am.

Some of you may be thinking, "How to do a yoga practice that?" Time and patience.

started my journey can not touch my toes. The day that I was no fanfare, no choir of angels singing, no fireworks, and neither party. There was room and if it felt good.

The day was finally able to stand on his head and without a wall, something amazing happened. Nothing. If I fell on my face in a balance of arms (and I), the same thing happened. Nothing. No one could stop staring, laughing, or point, because everyone was in their own practice.

Over time we began to put our fears and ego aside. Over time we began to listen to our bodies and be more aware, to judge less and love more.

We realize the lessons we have learned in our mat translate to the real world. The world does not change, but our perception of what it does.

Stress does not disappear, but the way we deal with it changes. When we are kind to ourselves, we become more kind to others. When we love ourselves, be compassionate and patient with ourselves, they are able to give it away freely to others.

I've learned over the years I am not my past. I am not what happened to me, and I am not my physical body. My body is a vehicle that carries me through this world. Yoga is a tool to help care for that vehicle, while honor my whole being.

I'm more, I do not have much to give, and I'm perfect the way I am. As I go through life there will always be someone who will criticize and judge. Leave them. We talk more about them than it does for me.

I want you to know you're amazing and perfect as you are. Criticize least Love yourself more, and you will be happier.

The real beauty lies within. Almost every class I teach, tell me: "Practice makes ..." and wait for an answer. Someone yells usually "... perfect!" I respond with, "... progress, because it is already perfect."

We have been brainwashed to think that perfection is beyond us same. The perfect house, car, family and life. The perfect body. The perfect pose.

We have been brainwashed to strive for perfection. All this makes us miserable effort. We can have goals, work toward them and be better at things, but when we identify with what we are, that robs us of joy.

A dear friend and teacher says: "Never give up always let go.." So go ahead, and never give up. You are precious and priceless.

When we find our true nature, which is where happiness lies. The joy can not be found outside of ourselves.

If there is anything you do not like it, change it, but do not identify with it. Every day is the best you can be in love yourself.

Look in the mirror every morning and pick something good to say himself.

You may think this is ridiculous and obvious, but it spends more time looking in the mirror in honor criticize ourselves. Make this a daily habit. You can even use a favorite quote or affirmation to set the tone for the day.

Journal-write all the things that make you wonderful and read. Even more difficult to read aloud.

Another tip toward self-love is meditation. This is scientifically proven to change the chemistry of the brain, reduce depression, and change the pattern of negative thinking among other things

The road to love and joy is not difficult.; However, the hard part is letting go of all the brainwashing of our past and the media. Invest time in you, and the reward is great!
