Ulcer simply means wound.Peptic ulcer is an excavation or erosion of the mucosal lining of the esophagus,stomach and first part of the stomach.

What Are the Symptoms of an Ulcer?

An ulcer may or may not have symptoms. When symptoms occur, they may include:

• A gnawing or burning pain in the middle or upper stomach between meals or at night

• Nausea and vomiting usually relieve the pain although persistent vomiting may lead to dehydration and weight loss.
