Water Fasting Could Be One of the Healthiest Things You Can Do

"Fasting is the first principle of medicine, fast and see the strength of spirit is revealed . "- Rumi
Today, fasting is considered to be taking place if you do not eat for a period of at least 8-12 hours. So technically, most of us are participating in a period of fasting every night when we sleep.

In the morning, we break our fast, this is where the term comes from breakfast. Animals are constantly fasting, especially when they are sick. In fact, humans are the only animals who eat when they are sick despite their body telling them not to do so.
"Everyone has a doctor in him.. Just have to help him in his work The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well ... To eat when you are sick is to feed their illness. "- Hippocrates
Contrary to popular belief, fasting is not dangerous or unhealthy if done correctly, it is actually healthy and beneficial.

A brief summary of what happens to your body when fasting

When you fast, the body is deprived of its normal source of energy, food, making it glucose.

The liver stores a large amount of sugar, in a form called glycogen, which is used for energy when the body is not taking in any of the food. Most of this energy source is depleted in the first 24 hours of fasting.

After this, the body changes to a state known as ketosis, fatty acids using the body as fuel to replace depleted glucose levels. This change usually starts on the second day, most likely ending on the third.

What happens here is that the body converts glycerol, which is available in body fat reserves in glucose for energy-but still not enough. The body gets the rest of its energy from breakdown of amino acids in muscle tissue, which are used by the liver to make more glucose for energy.

After this process, the ketone production is sufficient to provide almost all of the energy that the body needs, and the body begins to retain large amounts of protein. The body is able to preserve this protein to protect muscle tissue and vital organs from damage during long periods of food deprivation.

After prolonged fasting more than a week, the body begins the search for non-body protein sources of fuel, including non-essential cellular masses as degenerative tissues, bacteria, virus or any other part of the body that can be used as fuel.

The conservation of body proteins is considered by many as an evolutionary development that exists to protect muscle tissue and vital organs from damage during periods of insufficient food availability.

When fasting, like when you sleep, the body focuses on removing toxins and regeneration of damaged tissues.

What modern day science tells us about fasting

The benefits of fasting have been described in numerous scientific studies. Studies show that short-term fasting can extend your life, increase immunity and regenerate stem cells. The list goes on and on.

One of the most recent studies published on the subject was in June this year in the journal Cell Stem Cell. It was found that fasting 2-4 days at a time can actually cause a reduction in white blood cells. This means that fasting kills the old and damaged cells in the immune system, and when the body bounces that uses stem cells to create the new brand, completely healthy cells. (1)
"Fasting is the greatest remedy, the physician within." - Philippus Paracelsus, one of the three fathers of Western medicine
The study was conducted actually using human clinical trials in patients receiving chemotherapy that fasting was effective in the fight against cancer .
"During each cycle of fasting, this depletion of white blood cells induces changes that trigger stop based regeneration cells new cells of the immune system. Prolonged fasting also reduced levels of IGF-1 a hormone growth factor that has been associated with aging, tumor progression and cancer risk ". (1)
. "Chemotherapy causes significant collateral damage to the immune system The results of this study suggest that fasting may mitigate some of the harmful effects of chemotherapy" (1) -. Co-Author Tanya Dorff
"We could not predict that prolonged fasting would have such a remarkable effect in promoting regeneration based on stem cells heatopoietic system. When starves, the system attempts to save energy, and one of the things you can do to save energy is to recycle a lot of immune system cells that are not needed, especially those that can be damaged.

"what I began to notice both in our work and human animal work is that the white blood cell count decreases with prolonged fasting. Then again when feeding, blood cells back. "(1) - Valter Longo, corresponding author
A scientific review of multiple scientific studies on fasting was published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2007.

a multitude of human and animal studies was examined and it was determined that fasting is an effective way to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. he also showed great potential in the treatment of diabetes. (2)

the study concluded that the fasting:
. "you can modulate metabolic efficiency factors and functional risk, preventing or delaying future appearance of the most common chronic diseases" (2)
scientists at the National Institute on aging, led by Mark Mattson, professor of the Faculty of Medicine has published several articles that discuss how fast twice a week could significantly reduce the risk of developing both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. (3)

He explains how fasting stimulates two chemicals messaging operate at the cellular level and are key to the growth of brain cells in animals and humans.

The shock of fasting leads the brain to create new brain cells, neurons are forced to grow and the brain becomes more resistant to protein plaques observed in cases of Alzheimer's disease, or damage caused by Parkinson's.
"Changes in diet has long been known to have an effect on the brain. Children who suffer from epileptic seizures are less of them when placed on calorie restriction or fasting.

"it is believed that fasting helps implement protection measures that help counteract the overexcited signals often exhibit epileptic brains. (Some children with epilepsy also benefited from a high-specific-fat, low carbohydrate diet) normal brains, when overfed, may experience other uncontrollable excitement, deteriorating brain function, Mattson and another researcher reported in January in the journal Nature Reviews Neuroscience. "(3)
Scientists continue to uncover evidence that short-term fasting could get a number of health benefits. Despite this evidence, the current medical opinion remains unchanged, because there are many studies humans indicate that a diet of at least 2,000 calories a day is the best option.

fasting as a spiritual practice

as mentioned above, fasting is practiced for thousands of years by different cultures around the world. Seen as is not only beneficial to health but good for the soul, as is often done to strengthen our connection to the source, God, the creator or whatever call.

This is why it is described in several religions, texts, ancient civilizations and native American traditions. I will not go into details here, because it is a completely separate issue. it is not difficult to find more about it if it's some research.
"Fasting bring spiritual rebirth to those who cleanse and purify their bodies. The light of the world will light within you when fast and purify themselves. What the eyes are to the outside world, fasts are for interior . "- Mahatma Gandhi
My experience with fasting began about 10 years ago. I started practicing to lose weight initially concerned about my appearance more than anything else, it worked tremendously. But then something happened, he began to feel really good, I felt very light and more connected to my soul. I received bursts of energy quite often.

Comer was a censorial experience such a pleasure to censorship, a normal part of my human experience. Completely deprive me of this pleasure I allowed myself to connect on a spiritual level even more, and then I did scientific research, I realized that it was quite normal to feel completely rejuvenated, energized and healthy.

The fact that it was an ancient spiritual practice that made me even more, given the fact that science (quantum physics even more) is imposing on concepts already known thousands of years ago.

Fasting very often, and it's really (for me) a stimulating process that helps me keep a completely peaceful state, I feel is my most natural state. For me, it just feels good and since I've been to incorporate it into my life for 10 years, my body is very used to it.

Other factors to consider

*** When you are leaving a fast, it is important to do your research on how to divide best. It's not something you want to rush into, you do not want to fill with food afterwards. Do you want to ease your body back to the transition from eating foods with fruits and vegetables.

If you were to do a water fast, it is best to make sure that water is completely purified.
