Since the development of electronic cigarettes, which are electronic cigarettes are often made with nicotine and works to look like a real cigarette, the issue of product safety has been discussed. Some countries, such as France and Britain have taken steps to limit sales of electronic cigarettes because of the uncertainty behind these products. Studies investigating whether or not the use of electronic cigarettes help to quit have been inconclusive. However, even though these products are tools to help quit smoking no longer considered, a new study found that smokers who end up using electronic cigarettes tend to be more motivated to quit.
This study led by researchers, Pallav Pokhrel, Ph.D. and Thaddeus Herzog, Ph.D. University of Hawaii Cancer Control Program and Prevention Center, the team found that electronic cigarettes are used as a tool to quit smoking. For this study, researchers analyzed data from 1,567 adult smokers who provided information on their smoking habits to a survey based in Hawaii from 2010 to 2012. smokers reported smoking at least three cigarettes a day and more than 100 cigarettes in their lifetime . The survey also records data on nicotine dependence, the number of times that smokers have tried to quit smoking and motivation levels.

"Despite the lack of firm evidence regarding the safety or efficacy, e-cigarettes seem to have cessation aids become of choice for some smokers appear to show a relatively greater motivation to quit smoking, "said Herzog according to Medical Xpress . "Therefore, this study confirms the importance of rapidly developing e-cigarette regulations that address the appropriate use of electronic cigarettes as smoking cessation products. '"
The researchers also found that native Hawaiians were less likely to enlist the help of electronic cigarettes as a tool to quit smoking compared to white residents. The researchers suggested that, since younger people tend to be more motivated to quit smoking, this study could give an idea of what methods are effective to help young adults quit smoking.
"If they are electronic cigarettes to be relatively safer and more effective to help stop the attraction they have for younger adults will be used to improve the abandonment of snuff among younger smokers," said pokhrel. "Conversely, if electronic cigarettes are not effective as an aid to stop and potentially a risk, strategies must be developed to help younger smokers find effective help to quit."
The study was published in American Journal of Public Health .
